» Ricoh Launches Sturdy G600
Ricoh announced the G600, a 10-megapixel water- and dust-resistant point-and-shoot. With a tough, shock-resistant exterior, the G600 isn’t at all dainty. It features a wide-angle 28mm lens with 5x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD. Price and release date for the G600 in the US has not yet been announced, but it is priced at GBP350 (about $700) in the UK, and will be available in May. The G600 follows the Caplio 500G Wide, released in May 2006. The G600 is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, but has the same tough specs: it can withstand a 1.5 meter (5 foot) fall, shoot underwater in shallow water of up to 1 meter (3.2 feet), and withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). » Ricoh GX100 review
Announced just a year ago, in March 2007, the GX100 is one of a small number of cameras in the current Ricoh line-up. Unlike the major companies which offer a bewildering array of ever-changing models, Ricoh chooses to have just two or three models at any one time. The GX100 is their current zoom-lens equipped model, while the GRDII fills the fixed-lens niche in the product line. Read the whole review here.

» Ricoh R8 review
Ricoh has dropped the 'Caplio' tag and simply labels its latest digicam the R8. The new model, which is a minor upgrade to the 8-megapixel R7, sports a 10-megapixel CCD imager, 7x optical zoom lens and 2.7-inch LCD. Its body is a tad squarer and its LCD monitor slightly larger with a significantly higher resolution. The zoom lens and image processor are essentially unchanged. Read the whole review here. » Ricoh R8 review
Ricoh does it differently. No pre-PMA launches (Ricoh doesn't have a presence in the USA, so no need for PMA) no big shout and no three month delay from press launch to product release. Instead, the company quietly announced the new Ricoh R8 on its website, then handing over the camera for review on the same day in key areas like the UK. So, yesterday we got the launch and the preview… now comes the review proper. The product itself ships in the beginning of March. Phew! Ricoh dropped the Caplio name with this camera - it's now just the R8. How Leica will take this - the company's previous film SLR had the same R8 name - is unclear. The R8 - Ricoh's that is, not Leica's - also drops the pretty case colours and is now finished in all-black, all-silver or a panda finish with silver flashes offsetting the black body itself. The fit and finish (whichever you decide on) is exemplary for a GBP250 camera. It feels purposeful. Read the whole review here

» Ricoh Caplio RR770
Ricoh has snuck a new camera onto its global site - the Caplio RR770. A 7.1 megapixel sensor is served by a 34-102mm (35mm equiv.) lens and results may be viewed on a 3.0" 230k pixel LCD. Image storage is taken care of by SD cards or the 32MB internal memory - best reserved as a last resort - and the camera accepts standard AA batteries for effortless replacement wherever you may be. So okay, the specifications aren't going to set the world aflame but it looks like a solid little camera for younger members of the family or glovebox duty. Prices and availability are to be announced. Read the whole article here

» Ricoh 500SE review
Ever feel the need for some outdoors photography, but find yourself concerned that your regular digital camera may not be up to the task? Then Ricoh's latest rugged camera, the 500SE, may be for you. Dustproof to JIS 6 standards and waterproof to JIS 7 and featuring GPS tracking functionality, it is the perfect companion for those who want to take photographs in less accommodating circumstances. The images aren't the best we've seen, and there were some noticeable operating flaws, but the combination of unique features will definitely appeal. The images produced by the 500SE's 8 megapixel sensor are reasonable, but not outstanding. They were crisp and clear, with good levels of detail, although purple fringing was a problem in some areas and the camera did have a tendency to blow out highlights. Imatest awarded it a score of 1639 for sharpness, which is quite strong, and about what we'd expect from the 8 megapixel sensor. Read the whole article here

» Ricoh Caplio R6 review
In December last year I reviewed what was then Ricoh’s new flagship model, the excellent 7.0-megapixel Caplio R5, featuring a 7.1x zoom lens with a focal length range equivalent to 28-200mm, Ricoh’s own moving-CCD image stabilisation system and a nice high resolution monitor. I was suitably impressed by its combination of performance, features and image quality as well as its outstanding value for money. However the digital camera market moves very quickly, so just four months later the R5 has been superseded by the R6, which combines all of the features of the R5, adds the latest must have gizmo face detection technology, and somehow manages to cram the whole lot into a compact new body, measuring just 99.6 x 55 x 23.3mm and weighing just 161g including battery and card. » Ricoh announces Caplio R6

Tokyo, Japan – March 5, 2007 – Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Masamitsu Sakurai) has developed and launched the new Caplio R6 digital camera. The new Caplio R6 features such as a 7.1x wide zoom and high performance CCD-shift vibration correction from the Caplio R5 (open priced, launched September 15, 2006, featuring 7.24 megapixel CCD). Vibration Correction eliminates the shake from hand movement, which is the main cause of blurred images. The Caplio R6 also incorporates advancements over its predecessor with new features such as a slim body 20.6 mm at its thinnest point (26 mm for the Caplio R5) and a face recognition mode that automatically recognizes the subject’s face or faces and records the image at the optimal settings. In addition to functional advancements, the Caplio R6 adopts the Caplio R5’s design image while creating an anticipation of high performance through new design features. Those features include generous use of metal to house the lens, a distinctive strap attachment, and curves on the top. The Caplio R6 also features improved feel of robustness and texture.
