Leica Digital-Modul-R discontinued; new R digital planned?

A notice from Leica Camera in the U.S., distributed to its sales reps and dealer network this week, indicates that the Digital-Modul-R has been phased out. The notice makes it clear that the company will not be shipping any more units of the 10MP digital back for the R9 SLR, and hints at "near future" digital additions to the R system.
The notice begins with the subject line "Memo # 2007-65 Discontinued - Digital-Modul-R" and includes this text:
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
We regret to inform you that we have been informed by Leica Camera AG that the Leica Digital-Modul-R is sold out with immediate effect. Leica Camera will not be accepting any more orders or making any further deliveries of the DMR. Please inform your dealers accordingly.
