The BBC has announced the details of its Photographer of the Year 2006 competition. Now in its third year, this years competition comprises of six themes (of which you can submit up to four images to each) from which the twelve best photos of each theme are selected and put up to a public vote - and then the top two go through to a final decided again by public vote (hey, the BBC is a public corporation after all). The themes and deadlines are as follows:

2 August - Shelter
9 August - Rock 'n' Roll
16 August - Uniform
23 August - Technology
30 August - Love
6 September - Look Up
13 September - Final Vote
